Registry Defrag
The brand new Registry Defrag optimizes and defragments the Windows® registry so that your operating system works stable and smooth. Although this module is among the most technically demanding modules, it still is, as all other modules, easy-to-use. You need only three buttons to control this powerful tool.
When you start the Registry Defrag module there are the control buttons (green frame) and the so-called hives (red frame). The registry is stored in several files called hives. Those hives are checked for optimization potential by the Defrag Optimizer. On the left side you will find the title of the hives and on the right side its original size. Their optimized size and savings (the factor by which space is saved)are still unknown, because no analysis was carried out yet. To start an analysis just click on Analyse (button in the middle) to start the process. Please close all running applications except for Ashampoo WinOptimizer 9 for a more complete analysis. After clicking on Analyse the screen is dimmed. This process might take a few minutes.
After the analysis the results will displayed on the right side. Now also Optimized size and Savings are filled with values. Furthermore, the saving and new size are shown in a bar below. Depending on the age of your system and the number of installed programs, the saved space may vary. In the example below the system is fairly new and only ca. 3.7MB gewonnen werden.
The Defragment button is not grayed out any more. Then you start the actual defragmentation with just one click. Please note: After the defragmentation the computer will need to be restarted. This process edits highly central parts of the operating system. Therefore you should not take any risks. Programmers can quite often say: A reboot works wonders sometimes! After the restart the procedure is complete and the registry is defragmented, as requested.
